Easy Salsa Recipe
Here at Baseline Farmers' Market, we love tomato season! Nothing tastes better than fresh, locally grown tomatoes. If you don't have tomatoes in your garden at home, buying them from the farmers' market is the next best thing! Farm or garden fresh tomatoes will take your recipes to the next level of taste. There are so many things you can do with tomatoes, but you may need some inspiration. Here is an easy salsa recipe that is so fast to make! Be warned, it will disappear even faster because it's so yummy to eat!
4-5 large tomatoes diced
1/3 cup chopped purple onion
2-3 teaspoons minced jalapeno (reduce or add depending on how hot you like your salsa!)
1 garlic clove minced
2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon salt
Chopped cilantro (optional, to taste)
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Cover tightly and refrigerate. Lasts up to 5 days.

Party Flavours Gourmet Foods from Fort Saskatchewan has your party needs on lock! For the last two seasons at the Baseline Farmers Market, Party Flavours has been offering their dip and cheese ball mixes.
Founded in 2012, Party Flavours set out to develop and sell dip mixes that delight the taste buds without any added sugar, preservatives, or other chemical additives you may find in commercial varieties.
“We source all of our herbs and spices and other ingredients from Canadian wholesalers and have only one dip mix where we add a small amount seasoned salt. The rest contain only the most natural ingredients we can find,” says the owner, Svend Christensen.
From Bacon and Chives to Cajun Wildfire, all you have to do is mix their dry seasonings with a cup of sour cream and a cup of mayonnaise, chill, and serve. Talk about a saving grace for last-minute hors d'oeuvres!
To keep the party rolling, they have also introduced an exciting wine slush mix as well, described as a “fruity Sangria-like flavor that is a cool refreshing way to enhance the flavour out your wine.”
The owners of Party Flavours commented that “farmers markets have a unique atmosphere that [they] enjoy being a part of,” and that the best part about participating in the Baseline Farmers Market is “meeting and interacting with all of the customers as well as the other vendors.”
Be sure to stop by their booth at the Baseline Farmers Market every Wednesday from 4pm- 8pm, located in Sherwood Park at 390 Baseline Road, in the Home Depot parking lot.
Featured Vendor of the Week: Meat Street Pies
Mobile bakery, Meat Street Pies, produces quality ethnic meat pies... from scratch! When founders, Jonathan and Thea, retired they chose to channel over 40 years of experience in the baking business and open up their own food truck.
Mobile bakery, Meat Street Pies, produces quality ethnic meat pies... from scratch! When founders, Jonathan and Thea, retired they chose to channel over 40 years of experience in the baking business and open up their own food truck.
“We love what we do, love what we produce and love the people we serve it to,” says Thea. As proud at Baseline Farmers Market for their second year, their favourite part is always “meeting the customers and hearing their rave reviews.”
All Meat Street Pies products are homemade in their beloved kitchen in Avonmore, an Edmonton neighborhood near Mill Creek Ravine. Creations that are available for purchase include Beef and Chicken Pies, Cornish Pasties, Jamaican Patties, Gluten-Free Spinach and Feta Quiche, and Puff Pastry Eccles cakes.
If you’re still craving a meat pie when the summer season is over, you’ll be happy to know that Meat Street Pies produces frozen products so that when the truck isn’t operating— you can swing by their house or a few select local butcher shops and still have access to pies through the winter. The off-season order form to arrange that can be found here.
Beautifully phrased, the couple feels as though they are “selling 'nostalgia' — that folks hadn't had a proper Cornish Pasty since they'd been in England, or a lovely Steak & Cheese Pie since they'd been in Australia,” and Meat Street Pies has been, “touching emotional chords with a lot of people who when they bite into their pie, they have emotions [that remind them of] good things from their childhood.”
Get your dose of nostalgia every Wednesday from 4pm - 8pm at the Baseline Farmers Market and be sure to follow Meat Street Pies on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram for all their delicious updates.
